This tree's story

I spoke to the groundsman who was mowing the cricket square and he remembers the tree from his boyhood 60 years before, even then it was massive though I suspect most trees look big to little kids!

Growing on the tree

  • Lichen
  • Fungi

Signs of animal life

  • Insect boring
  • Bird nesting

Additional comments

This is a massive tree for a poplar and clearly very old for the species. There is extensive heartwood decay with some loss of stems so the true girth would be even larger.
