These trees' story
A set of magnificent Beech trees grow right on the edge of the scarp slope of the Greensand ridge, where the long walk around Ightham Mote joins the Greensand Way. There are ten trees spaced along 50 yards of the path; most could not be measured because of the steepness of the slope

Additional comments
Girth could be measured on two trees, 2nd and 10th down the slope – the others looked as though they ranged in size between these two. The 7th tree down the line (not measurable) has two numbered tags on it – 0074 and 0258. This record relates to the 10th tree down the slope, the largest, which had to be measured at ground level on the path owing to the steepness of the slope.
