These trees' story
‘The Cloud Yew Hedge’. This is one of a number of very large yew hedges in Doddington Place and is situated in the garden. Head Gardner Lucy Adams told me that the yew hedge originally was clipped back but with the outbreak of war, the gardners joined the services and the hedge became overgrown. However, the owner, Mrs Douglas Jeffreys, liked the look of the overgrown hedge and it has remained in this shape with only maintenance trimming ever since. There are approximately 110 yew trees in the hedge. It is possible to walk inside the hedge. Mrs. Douglas Jeffreys (nee Oldfield) was responsible for much of the architectural detail and layout of the heart of the garden. She lived in the house from 1906 until her death in 1954.
