Chunky coppiced hazel in field on Lympne Hill public footpath, below the Shepway Cross. Probably one of the old routes down to ancient port of West Hythe.

  • Lichen
  • Fungi
  • Moss

Signs of animal life

  • Insect boring
  • possible mouse hole/bird hole 1m up

Additional comments

Other hazels in hedgerow nearby, also coppiced, but less noticeable/large. A beautiful shape all round. Some poaching -both sheep and cows usually in field. Most of the stems growing up from old coppicing are 50-55cm. About 14 stems – forgot to count them. Bracket fungi now on tree, quite soft and new (20.11.2014)
