This tree's story
King John is said to have sat under the ‘Headcorn Oak’ to watch bull baiting. The tree was estimated to be 500 years old. On the 25th April 1989 the tree was damaged by fire, but continued to produce new growth until July 1993.

Additional comments
The remains of the oak are south of the church door. Another oak tree from an acorn of the original ‘Headcorn Oak’ was planted 50 yards west of the tree in 1940.
