These trees' story

This was the course of old River Rother (in those days called River Limen), which ran to the ancient port of Lympne before the great medieval storms shifted its route westwards thus forming Romney Marsh.

Additional comments

There are very old willows all along this strip of land, at about 10m intervals. Can’t get in to measure (got the trunk on a previous occasion when I got ‘lost’), but have estimated the sizes. The line continues below Stutfall Castle (Roman ruin) and even through Port Lympne Zoopark, possibly beyond. Number of trees very approximate! Rookery and heronry in adjacent wood edge.
